 Two hours drive from Phnom Penh lyes the peaceful town of Kampot that rests in the shadow of Bokor Mountain. From the southern coastline on the outskirts of Kampot to the evergreen forest on Bokor Mountain, this area holds a wonderful assortment of key birding species including the near-endemic Chestnut-headed Partridge and Great Hornbill to name but a few. As well as experiencing great birding spots, this is a perfect opportunity to explore a more relaxed side of Cambodia after a fantastic day of birding.

        Bokor National Park:

        Bird Species:

        Eurasian Curlew, Whimbrel, Grey Plover, Spotted and Common Redshanks, Common Greenshank, Lesser and Greater Sand Plovers, Ruddy Turnstone, Wood and Common Sandpipers, Little Ringed Plover, Caspian Tern, Common and Collared Kingfisher, Golden-bellied Gerygone, Indian Whitye-eye and Little Heron.

        Bokor National Park:

        Chestnut-headed Partridge, Great and Wreathed Hornbills, Common and Grey-faced Buzzard, Rufous-bellied Eagle, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Black Eagle, Jerdon’s Baza, Barred Cuckoo-dove, Mountain Imperial Pigeon, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Blue Pitta, Moustached Barbet, Sulphur-breasted Warbler, Alstrom’s Warbler, Mugimaki Flycatcher, Orange-headed Thrush, White-browed Scimitar-babbler and Oriental Honey-buzzard.

        Mammals: Pileated Gibbon, Northern Pig-tailed and Long-tailed Macaques and Yellow-throated Marten.

          - Sun hat.

          - Sun cream.

          - Appropriate closed-toe shoes. Walking boots are best.

          - Light clothing covering shoulders and knees- this is especially relevant when visiting temples and religious sites. Clothing should not be bright when birding.

          - Insect repellent.

          - Waterproof coat.

          - Small denominations of money. This is especially relevant when entering Northern Cambodia. $20 is the maximum denomination of money that should be taken.

          - Binoculars. SVC charge $5 per person per day to use our Swarovski Optik binoculars.

          - Ear plugs are recommended for multi-day tours. The sound of nature at night in remote areas can be loud.
